People Magazine reports that well known comedian and actor Chris Rock is seeking a divorce from his wife of 18 years, Malaak Rock. According to a statement made to People Magazine by Chris Rock's attorney, Robert Cohen: "Chris Rock has filed for divorce from his wife, Malaak. This is a personal matter and Chris requests privacy as he and Malaak work through this process and focus on their family."
Malaak Rock confirmed the couple's decision to divorce in a separate statement to People. Similar to Chris Rock's statement, Malaak also requested privacy, and stated that although the couple was separating, they would both continue to focus on the well-being of their two daughters. Although neither Chris nor Malaak's official statements reveal what led to the demise of the couple's relationship, there has been speculation of adultery and impending divorce since 2010. However, TMZ reports that the couple's split may not have been caused by infidelity on either side, but may instead be due to the parties' lack of fulfillment in the marriage. Although Malaak has confirmed the couple's separation, it is not yet known whether she has filed an Answer to Chris Rock's divorce filings, if she will be seeking alimony, or if she will be contesting Chris Rock's desire to share joint legal and physical custody of the children.
