Psychological Evaluations

Factors for Determining Child Custody

What is a Psychological Evaluation?

A Psychological Evaluation is an independent assessment conducted by a court-appointed psychologist, or other mental health professional, to conclude whether an individual has a diagnosable mental health disorder. The judge, Guardian Ad Litem ("GAL"), or the parties themselves, may request a Psychological Evaluation to aid the court in determining custody.

In cases involving child custody, the court may order a Psychological Evaluation be performed on the child(ren) and one, or both, parent(s). The cost of a Psychological Evaluation can be split equally between the parties, paid by a single party, or allocated pro rata according to each parent's income.
