Most often when a celebrity divorce is in the news, it is for the fighting, name-calling and "who wants what" in the divorce - naturally because this juicy gossip is what sells. Every once in a while I come across a new story that shows celebrities working through their divorce amicably, without airing their dirty laundry in the media. While these stories may appear in the headlines because it is an otherwise slow news day, sometimes there are great lessons that can be taken away by those going through a divorce.
Such is the case with actors Téa Leoni and David Duchovny. The two recently filed for divorce after 17 years of marriage and two children. Téa Leoni Opens Up About David Duchovny For The First Time, by Taryn Hillin, The Huffington Post, September 22, 2014. With children aged 15 and 12, the parties are obviously going to have to work cooperatively for the benefit of their children. In a recent interview with Parade magazine, Leoni described how they planned to do so: "David gave me the two greatest gifts on the planet; I don't know how I could ever hate him. We've always loved each other, and we adore these kids." Leoni added, "I'm not playing stupid. I understand feelings can get hurt and things can get icky. We've had our moments like that. But these kids are too important, and he feels the same way, I know it. He's a good guy."
These parents are going into the divorce with a great attitude - that the kids are the number one priority. They acknowledge that they may not always see eye to eye (after all there is a reason they are getting divorced) but hopefully, by putting their kids first, they will be able to amicably work out any issues that presents itself.
