Background

Rebekah A. James serves as an Attorney with Meriwether & Tharp, LLC. She graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of West Georgia and earned her Juris Doctorate at the University of Georgia School of Law.

During her undergraduate career, Rebekah maintained the HOPE Scholarship, was a member of both the University of West Georgia Honors College and the Kappa Tau Chapter of Sigma Kappa sorority, and volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA).

In law school, Rebekah worked as a Student Practitioner at the Wilbanks Child Endangerment & Sexual Exploitation (CEASE) Clinic for two semesters and one semester at the Family Violence Clinic. In January 2018, Rebekah had the opportunity to participate in the Wilbanks CEASE Clinic's Child Welfare Mock Trial, which was centered on child sexual abuse and child welfare.

Rebekah has served on the Editorial Board and Managerial Board of the Journal of Intellectual Property Law. She is also a Registered Neutral through the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution and served as a mediator for civil cases in the Magistrate Court of Athens-Clarke County. While in law school, Rebekah was a member of the Family Law Society, Student Bar Association, Alternative Dispute Resolution Society, Women Law Students Association, and Law Republicans. During her final year of law school, Rebekah served as Vice President of Programming for the Family Law Society and Publicity Officer for the Women Law Students Association.

Growing up as a child of divorced parents, Rebekah understands firsthand the challenges associated with divorce. Rebekah's interest in the legal field was inspired by a Guardian ad Litem who represented her as a child. Following law school, she entered the field of family law focusing on child welfare and child custody.

On a personal level, Rebekah is active in church, enjoys hiking, painting, spending time with family and friends, and cheering on the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs.
