In Early June, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he and his wife Lyudmila plan to end their marriage of nearly 30 years. According to several media outlets, the couple announced their intent to end their marriage during a seemingly impromptu interview by a Russian reporter as they left a performance of the ballet “Esmeralda” at the Kremlin Palace. When asked if they were currently living apart, President Putin responded: “This is so.”
Not very many are shocked by the news of the couples impending divorce as it has long been rumored that the couple was living separately, and that the Putin may have already moved on from the relationship. When asked about why the couple was seeking to divorce after almost three decades of marriage, Lyudmila explained: “Our marriage is over because we hardly ever see each other. Vladimir Vladimirovich is immersed in his work, our children have grown and are living their own lives.”
Although many speculate that the couple’s divorce is already finalized, and that the couple simply waited to make the public announcement, this has not been confirmed by either spouse. Fortunately though, from all outward appearances, the couple’s split seems to be incredibly amicable.
