On April 23, 2014 the Seattle Seahawks issued a statement on behalf of the teams’ quarterback Russell Wilson announcing that Wilson is seeking a divorce from his wife Ashton Wilson. The statement reads:
“I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce. Clearly, decisions like these don’t come easy. Ashton and I respectfully ask for prayers, understanding and privacy during this difficult time. Moving forward, I will have no further comment on this matter.”
Russell Wilson’s announcement came as a shock to many who believed the couple’s two year marriage was ideal. In fact, shortly after the quarterback lead the Seahawks to a Super Bowl victory the couple was seen out performing charitable acts together, such as visiting children’s hospitals. The details of the young couple’s divorce have yet to be publicized and it is currently unknown what lead the pro athlete to seek a divorce from his high school sweetheart. But, as the couple has no children together, the issues of the divorce will not include child custody, visitation or child support. Thus, the only issues likely to be disputed are division of marital property and alimony.
