Background

Rebecca L. Smith has always been an advocate for families. From the time she graduated from Park University in 2011, she has held multiple positions serving both children and families facing struggles of homelessness, substance abuse, mental health issues, and domestic violence. Rebecca decided to go to law school after experiencing firsthand the complexities of child custody. As a mother and stepparent, Rebecca understands many of the issues her clients face and approaches these situations with empathy and understanding. Her passion for advocating for children remains a consistent motivation.

Rebecca graduated in 2024 with her Juris Doctorate from Atlanta's John Marshall Law School. While in law school, Rebecca worked part time as a law clerk and volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate ("CASA"), where she advocated for children placed in foster care. Rebecca also completed an externship with the Juvenile Prosecutor in Coweta County, where she gained courtroom experience. Rebecca is also a newly registered mediator and understands the importance of settling a case.

In an effort to reestablish a Family Law Society at Atlanta's John Marshall, Rebecca took on the role of Vice President, later becoming President, to help provide students opportunities for family law involvement including networking events, job opportunities, volunteer experience, and overall family law exposure.

Rebecca was also a peer mentor to new students and served on the board of directors for the Peer Mentor Program as Social Development and Engagement Director.

In her free time, Rebecca enjoys spending time with her husband and their three children. She also enjoys planning and attending events, traveling, and going to the gym.
