When a couple goes through a divorce, there is often animosity or ill will between them. When the cause of the divorce is infidelity, the animosity increases even more and chances of an amicable divorce are slim. If you add children into the equation, forcing the parents to have some sort of continuing relationship, things have the chance to get even more complicated and antagonistic. Sometimes, however, even couples with both infidelity and children are able to put their feelings toward each other as spouses to the side to work together for the benefit of the children.
Such is the case for Carmelo and La La Anthony. The parties are getting divorced as a result of Carmelo's affair with a dancer who ended up pregnant with his child. Carmelo Anthony: Allegedly Knocked Up Dancer…La La Pissed, by TMZ Staff, tmz.com, 4/18/2017 (LINK http://www.tmz.com/2017/04/18/carmelo-anthony-la-la-anthony-knocked-up-dancer/) However, despite La La's anger over the situation, the parties remain committed working together for the benefit of their 10-year-old son and have already worked out a temporary custody agreement. Melo & La La: She Gets Primary Temp Custody, He Gets Visitation, by TMZ Staff, tmz.com, April 21, 2017. Under the agreement, La La will have primary custody but Carmelo "has a totally open line of communication and will be able to spend time with his son as much as he'd like." La La has not gotten over her anger toward Carmelo, "but she's adamant he's a great dad and deserves time with his son."
It's refreshing to see a couple put their animosity to the side for the benefit of their child. Being celebrities whose dirty laundry is aired for the world to see likely makes it harder for La La in particular, but their commitment to their son is still winning out for now. Hopefully they will continue with this mindset as their divorce progresses and they navigate life together as co-parents.
