Unfortunately, it seems as if the marriage of critically acclaimed actor Richard Gere may be going the way of several other celebrity marriages before it – down the path to divorce. According to new media outlets The Huffington Post, Fox News and the LATimes, actor Richard Gere and his wife of 11 years, Carey Lowell, have separated and may be headed for divorce.
Although it is unclear whether the couple has actually filed for divorce, or even if the couple will officially announce their separation or impending divorce public in the near future, according to close friends of the couple, the couple has been spending time apart. It has also been reported that the couple may have been separated for several months. The exact cause of the couple’s apparent marital distress is unknown, but it is speculated that the couple’s differing life styles – Gere craves privacy and Lowell likes socializing with other socialites – may be the root.
If the couple does seek divorce, the major issues of the divorce will more than likely be the custody of their 13 year old son, Homer, and the division of the couple’s marital assets, which currently includes their $65 million New Haven estate that Gere recently put on the market for sale.
