Can I Get a Divorce for a Flat Fee?

Publish Date: 12/19/2022

Traditional Divorce Model

The short answer is Yes. The traditional model for a divorce involves the billable hour model, where a client pays an initial payment or retainer fee and is billed monthly for the hourly work performed on their case. At M&T, we understand that the traditional method can be expensive and unpredictable.

Online Divorce Forms Package

To help mitigate the frustrations of financing a divorce, M&T has designed different pathways to assist clients with financing their unique divorce. For the simplest of cases, we offer the Online Divorce Forms Package, a DIY approach where we guide you to resolve your uncontested divorce yourself. However, many divorces are not uncontested, and may not qualify for our divorce forms.

Model M&T

Simply because it is rare for both parties to agree on how to resolve all aspects of the case (child custody, child support, asset division, and alimony), the majority of divorces are contested rather than uncontested. Our experience with many divorce cases over the years has led us to produce the Model M&T, to streamline a package of the essential items needed to resolve most divorces.

The Model M&T includes 3 hours of communication per month with your attorney, necessary divorce forms and pleadings, essential discovery and responses, Initial Case Action Plan, Marital Balance Sheet (MBS), Income Analysis Sheet, Alimony Calculator, attendance to Status Conference/Temporary Hearings/Emergency Hearings/Pre-trial conferences, and formal Mediation or informal settlement negotiations.

Since the Model M&T is designed for resolution-focused cases, it does not include a final trial, advanced service, complicated motions, advanced discovery, depositions, custody evaluations, Guardian ad Litem (GAL), mediator fees, etc. Should these items be necessary for your case, they are available at an additional cost.

The Model M&T offers clients the option to either pay a flat fee upfront, or you can choose to make an initial payment and make monthly payments. Click here to read more about our Model M&T Flat Fee option.
