Background
Laura Almand was raised in Augusta, Georgia. She graduated Cum Laude from Georgia Southern University in 2011, with a Bachelor in Science in Justice Studies before relocating to Atlanta, Georgia to attend law school at Atlanta's John Marshall Law School. While in law school, Laura volunteered as a certified legal intern with the Clayton County Public Defender's Office and received the Justice Leah Sears Pro bono award for completing over 1000 hours of legal service during her final year. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with her Juris Doctorate in 2014.
After law school, Laura moved to the west Georgia area and
worked with the Coweta Circuit District Attorneys office handling juvenile and
adult felony and misdemeanor offenses and received substantial jury trial and
litigation experience. In 2021, she was assigned to special victims unit with
the Atlanta Judicial Circuit District Attorney's office and prosecuted adult
sex crimes and crimes against children. In May 2024, Laura joined Meriwether
& Tharp after realizing she had an interest in helping families navigate
the process of divorce and child custody cases. As a mom and part of a
blended family, Laura understands the unique perspective and issues that are
presented to families during the divorce and custody process.
During her free time, Laura loves spending time with her family and friends, and her silver lab Chief, playing trivia, and going to Atlanta Braves games. Laura is a resident of Coweta County.
