Background

Katie Mayo is a Law Clerk with Meriwether & Tharp, LLC and works primarily out of the Marietta office. Katie graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology, before earning her Juris Doctorate from the University of Georgia.

While in law school, Katie worked as a Graduate Assistant, conducting specialized research in the field of child welfare law. Through this role, she assisted in the creation of a child trafficking chapter published in the 4th Edition of Child Welfare Law and Practice, a guidebook published by the National Association of Counsel for Children and widely relied upon by child welfare advocates. Katie also served as a Student Practitioner at the Wilbanks Child Endangerment & Sexual Exploitation Clinic, providing legal services to survivors of child sexual abuse and exploitation in civil lawsuits and dependency proceedings. Katie further developed her passions for family law and trauma-informed lawyering through her work as a Student Practitioner at UGA Law's Family Justice Clinic, representing survivors of domestic violence in a variety of family law matters.

As a "Law Dawg," Katie represented the law school as a Dean's Ambassador, served as the Vice President of UGA Law's Family Law Society, and worked on the Editorial Board of the Georgia Journal of Intellectual Property. She also gained valuable litigation experience through externships with Cobb Legal Aid, the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation, and the Georgia Capital Defender Office. In 2021, Katie was selected as a National Fellow of the Christian Legal Society.

Outside of the office, Katie enjoys reading, traveling with her husband, volunteering with her local children's ministry, and cheering on the Florida Gators with family and friends.
